Jon KlassenA Caldecott Award winner, Jon Klassen's style of illustration heightens the interplay between text and graphics - some pages go textless because the pictures do all the talking.
He has written and illustrated his own books but also illustrates others' books. One of his favorite parts of illustrating books is the problem-solving it entails - how will the words and the pictures fit on the page together to make the most sense for kids. He always keeps the kids in mind. His stories are sometimes noted as being edgier, but that is up to the reader. Klassen's stories are left a little more exploratory at the end which makes his stories (and the ones he's illustrated) great for preschoolers but also fantastic to open the conversations for meatier topics with big kids (like wealth distribution and stealing). |
